POHYBUJÚCE SA RAKVY
Príbeh Tajomstvo rodinnej hrobky zo seriálu Verte neverte je založený na skutočných udalostiach. Podobný prípad sa odohral v 19. storočí na ostrove Barbados.
Roku 1807 kúpil miestny plantážnik Thomas Chase na miestnom cintoríne hrobku. Ešte v tom roku do nej uložili telo jeho príbuznej, pani Goddarovej. O rok neskôr tam pochovali Chasovu malú dcérku Mary Ann a ďalšia dcéra Dorcas ju nasledovala v júli roku 1812. Keď hrobku koncom toho roka otvorili, aby do nej pochovali aj pána Chasa, z údivom hrobári zistili, že truhla Mary Ann je opretá o stenu a zvyšné rakvy sú popremiestňované. Hrobári všetok neporiadok upratali a hrobku pre istotu aj zapečatili.
V roku 1816 sa tu konal ďalší pohreb malého dieťaťa. Po otvorení rodinnej hrobky tu našli opäť veľký neporiadok. Ukázalo sa, že po piesku na podlahe vôbec nikto nechodil. Rakvy opäť starostlivo poukladali. No keď o sedem rokov neskôr pochovávali ďalšieho člena rodiny, znova tam našli neporiadok. Barbadosom sa začali šíriť zvesti o zlých duchoch a krutosti Thomasa Chasa.
Prípad naberal čoraz väčší záujem verejnosti. V roku 1819 sa na ďalšom pohrebe pred hrobkou veľký dav zvedavcov. Prítomný bol aj guvernér Barbadosu, lord Combermere, ktorý v krypte objavil veľkú spúšť. Jeho manželka si do denníka zaznamenala, že preskúmal celú hrobku a osobne dozeral, aby znova usporiadali rakvy, starostlivo posypali dlážku novým pieskom, a tiež dbal na to, aby bola hrobka dôkladne zabezpečená ťažkými dverami.
Po tom, čo 18. apríla 1820 bolo počuť z hrobky podozrivý lomoz, lord Combermere sa znova vydal na cintorín. Presvedčil sa, že pečate zostali neporušené a dverami by sa bolo dalo len ťažko pohnúť. Po otvorení hrobky neveril vlastným očiam. Všetky rakvy v hrobke boli opäť poprehadzované a jedna dokonca poškodila kamennú stenu.
Členovia rodiny sa tak vydesili, že všetkých mŕtvych presťahovali do nových hrobov a od tých čias zostala krypta prázdna.
Podobné prípady sa vyskytli aj v Anglicku. Jeden sa stal v 18. storočí na cintoríne Bury St. Edmunds, druhý v Stamforde začiatkom 19. storočia. Povrávalo sa, že neporiadok v krypte spôsobila podzemná voda, ktorá tam istý čas prenikala, alebo možno mierne zemetrasenie. Ďalšie prípady sa vyskytli roku 1844 na ostrove Saaremaa v Baltskom mori. Úrady miesto dôkladne prezreli a hrobku starostlivo zapečatili, ale záhadné zvuky a neporiadok pretrvávali, kým nebožtíkov nepresťahovali inam.
